Veg Club: Plant-Based Information
Broward College, Ft. Lauderdale, FL
2019 – 2021
Created and served as a faculty advisor for Veg Club, a plant-based information club and registered Student Life organization on the Central Campus of Broward College, from 2019-2021.
Many students on the leadership executive board of Veg Club were high school students in the dual enrollment College Academy program.
The club's mission was to promote plant-based information literacy by sharing ideas, discussing stories, exchanging information, and learning as a veggie community.
The purpose of the student life organization was to learn how to research trustworthy information better, interpret data quicker, and evaluate sources to use health information resources more efficiently for optimum health.
For my college service and librarian support as a faculty advisor to the students in Veg Club, I was named the Advisor of the Year for clubs at the Central Campus of Broward College during the 2021 Student Life annual recognition ceremony, affectionately known as The Sammys (after Sammy the Seahawk mascot).
I earned a graduate certificate in Museum Theory & Practice from the College of Fine Arts at Florida State University and participated in an FSU study abroad for museums and cultural heritage sites in London, England.
I managed an academic art research library as the campus librarian at Miami International University of Art & Design (the Art Institutes).
As the assistant reference librarian at Hirsch Library in the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, I delivered research support to curators, docents, and visiting scholars, and I taught information literacy to graduate students at Rice University and undergraduates at Lone Star Community College.
In Minneapolis, I assisted on a cataloging migration project to a new ILS at the Walker Art Center Library and acquired customer service skills in visitor services and in the retail store at the Minneapolis Institute of Arts, where I supplied blue-ribbon service for 110,996 visitors at Martin Luther: Art of the Reformation.
