Jason Anfinsen is an assistant professor in the Library Department at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse, where he serves as the Student Engagement and Outreach Librarian at Murphy Library.
With a colorful background in radio & broadcasting, improv & theatre, and museums & libraries, "Information Jason," as students know him, has more than a decade of post-MLIS experience at university libraries in Wisconsin and Florida and at art museum libraries in Texas and Minnesota.
Jason is a 3X alumnus of Florida State University and a 2X graduate of the FSU School of Information (iSchool). Jason graduated cum laude with a bachelor’s degree in Social Science (cum laude), graduate certificates in User Services, School Librarianship, and Museum Studies, a master’s degree in Library and Information Studies (MLIS), and a post-master's Specialist degree in Information (Info.S.) from Florida State University.

Proudly serve as a faculty advisor to the Chess Club @ Seminole State College of Florida.
Chess Club was formed by SSC students at Nightbrary and became an official organization with Student Life in 2023.
The library serves as club headquarters with numerous chess boards in the Game Gallery section at SLM.
Students hold club meetings and host tournaments during Lunchbrary and Nightbrary.
Chess Club was crowned Club of the Year at the Sanford/Lake Mary (SLM) campus for 2024-2025.

For my college service and librarian support as a faculty advisor to the students in Veg Club, I was named the Advisor of the Year for clubs at the Central Campus of Broward College during the 2021 Student Life annual recognition ceremony, affectionately known as The Sammys (after Sammy the Seahawk mascot).
Created and served as a faculty advisor for Veg Club, a plant-based information club and registered Student Life organization on the Central Campus of Broward College, from 2019-2021. Many students on the leadership executive board of Veg Club were high school students in the dual enrollment College Academy program.
The purpose of the student life organization was to learn how to research trustworthy information better, interpret data quicker, and evaluate sources to use health information resources more efficiently for optimum health.

As of the fall 2025 academic semester, I am now teaching information as an assistant professor at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse, where I proudly serve as the Student Engagement and Outreach Librarian at Murphy Library.
My first big gig of the new position and school year was Eagle Fest 2025, UWL’s annual “back to school bash” for the entire La Crosse community.
Librarians and library staff working the pop-up Murphy Library outreach table registered 91 new followers on @UWLMurphyLibrary Instagram and engaged 296 students, faculty, staff, and community members.
Our student engagement and outreach team explored censorship at Eagle Fest 2025 by hosting a Banned Books Emoji Title Challenge, where visitors guessed banned or challenged book titles using only emojis.
For the Murphy Library news blog, The Fine Print, I wrote a post on banned books and censorship entitled, “Wait...that book was banned?”
