come out through art @ MICKEE FAUST CLUB / fsu

In 2015, I partnered with an organization in the local Tallahassee community to galvanize and harmonize the LGBTQ+ community.  Along with the Tallahassee arts and activist community theater, The Mickee Faust Club, I created a one-of-a-kind event called Come Out Through Art, a special evening of shared stories through the arts, where people could meet, engage, and artistically share with members of the LGBTQ+ community in a safe and supportive atmosphere.

For months I collaborated with the Mickee Faust Club team, including founder and artistic director Terry Galloway, Executive Director and Professor in the School of Communication at Florida State University, Donna Nudd, and longtime cast member and producer, Jimmers Micallef, for a total of fifty (50) service learning hours during my ARE 5252 – Art in Community Service graduate school course taught by Dr. Antonio C. Cuyler at Florida State University.

More than a dozen speakers and performers and over 60 audience members packed The Mickee Faust Club to share or support unique LGBTQ+ coming out stories through unique poems, songs, and personal tales.
